Hostels in Ibiza - youth hostels, cheap hotels & pensions

There are remarkably few hostels in Ibiza, but the island has numerous cheap pensions and hotels that are perfectly reasonably priced, and generally decorated and appointed to a high standard.

To reduce the overall cost of backpacking in Ibiza, it is advisable to look for hostels in Ibiza Town, San Antonio or Santa Eularia, the island's three main towns. Having all of the local amenities on your doorstep will cut down transport costs considerably, and mean that you may not need a hire car, either. As with any accommodation in Ibiza, it is definitely best to book as far in advance as possible, since the summer season - and certainly July and August - often sees hotels and hostels in Ibiza completely booked up.

Starting in Ibiza Town, then, the Hostal La Marina (Carrer Barcelona 7, La Marina; 971 310 172) is great value considering its location right in the heart of Ibiza Town's party district. Rooms are pleasant and some have views of the harbour. There is a second building in the New Town, which is slightly cheaper than the La Marina HQ. Indeed, the cheapest hotels in Ibiza Town are in the New Town, which is only five minutes' walk from the main action. Hostal Juanito and Hostal Las Nievas (Carrer Joan d'Austria 18; 971 315 822) are clean and simple, and Casa de Huespedes Vara de Rey (Vara de Rey 7; 971 301 376) is an excellent place if you are staying for a longer time or looking for a job in Ibiza, since it has a regularly updated noticeboard. Sol y Brisa (Avgda Bartomeu Vicente Ramon 15; 971 310 818) is particularly cheap and ideal for backpackers, and Hostal Bimbi (Carrer Ramon Mutaner 55; 971 305 396) is a little further out of town, but right by the beach at Figueretes.

Moving on to San Antonio, Hostal Residencia Roig (Carrer Progress 44; 971 340 483) has around forty rooms and is good value for money, with a local pool available for use by visitors. Hostal Residencia Salada (Carrer Soletat 24; 971 341 130) is a relatively peaceful little place, and one of the cheapest places to stay in San Antonio. In Santa Eularia, Hostal Rey (Carrer Sant Josep 17; 971 330 210) is close to the Passeig de s'Alamera and only a minute or two from the beach. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms.

Finally to a couple of backpacker and youth hoste ideas, both on the perennially popular Salines beach, home to trendy bars like Sa Trinxa. Hostal Pepita Escandell (971 396 583) is very cheap for Ibiza but perfectly pleasant, and Hostal Mar y Sal (971 395 453) has its own restaurant and bar.
