Thassos has been a popular package holiday destination since the early 1990s attracting a cosmopolitan mix of visitors from mainland Greece, northern and eastern Europe who ensure a lively night scene in all the main resort areas during the summer months. You'll find plenty of good restaurants, late night music bars, live Greek music and dance spots to keep you occupied on those long, hot summer nights.
The island's capital and tourist centre, Limenas, offers a good choice of cheap and cheerful fast food joints, some excellent tavernas dotted around the old harbour and lively bars where you can listen to music till the small hours.

The presence of foreign tourists means you can take your pick of international fare along with all the usual Greek standards such as souvlaki, gyros, mousaka and stifado. Fish fans should make a beeline for I Kokkinia on the outskirts of town on the road south to Panagia. The owner's father is a fishermen so you can be sure of beautifully fresh fish at a very reasonable price. The best seafood on the island is to be found about one kilometre west of Limenas at the more upmarket Taverna Tarsanas where you can savour the most delicious seafood mezedes and fresh lobster. If you're more of a meat lover try value for money Syrtaki Taverna, just beyond the old harbour, where you can enjoy tasty traditional fare under a leafy canopy overlooking the sea. The restaurant lays on live Greek entertainment during high season.
For after dinner cocktails, music and dancing on the beach head for the popular Island Café at the eastern end of town beyond the old harbour. British holidaymakers tend to congregate at the lively Full Moon bar on the main thoroughfare 18 Octovriou next to Hotel Amfipolis.
If you're lucky enough to be staying at the Makryammos holiday complex, a couple of kilometres south east of the capital, you'll have all kinds of entertainment facilities laid on including live music, shows, Greek nights and beach parties. Other hotels in the most popular resort areas around the island also provide in-house evening entertainment on a regular basis so ask for details before committing yourself to a package deal.
The resorts of Potos and Limenaria, on the south coast, also offer a vibrant night scene with a plentiful supply of trendy waterfront bars and cafes.
Many tavernas and dedicated "bouzoukia" (bouzouki bars) lay on live Greek music and dancing both in the main towns and island villages, especially during summer weekends. Taverna Drosia, on the outskirts of Rahoni in the north west corner of the island, offers reasonably priced seafood and meat dishes accompanied by live bouzouki music on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.
You can hear rembetika music (the Greeks' answer to the American Blues) at Taverna Orizontes in the inland village of Theologos, 10 kilometres north east of Potos. Nearby Augustus is a bouzouki joint which has good grilled meat dishes and live music at the weekends.
