Sikinos Accommodation Greece - Greek Hotels

More on Sikinos - Beaches - Car Hire - Day Trips - Night Life - Introduction

Sikinos has avoided the mass market tourism that is now the main source of income on many of the more commercialised Cycladic islands so you won't find a huge variety of hotel and other holiday accommodation here. But there are plenty of rooms to let, especially in the port area, and the prices are low compared with those to be found on the more tourist-orientated islands such as Mykonos and Santorini.

There are no deluxe hotels with spa centres, beauty parlours and conference centre here. The plushest place to bed down for the night is the B-category Porto Sikinos complex, right on the beach 100 metres from the port. The hotel has been built in the traditional Cycladic style and offers 19 comfortable rooms with good facilities including fridges, direct dial telephone, private balconies, laundry and room service. There's also a bar, coffee shop and TV lounge. The hotel is open from April to October.

Hotel Kamares is a comfortable and traditional hotel and though it may not be quite as stylish as Porto Sikinos it occupies a more attractive setting in Alopronia.

The enterprising Lucas family have rooms available throughout the port of Alopronia and a representative is usually waiting to greet passengers at they disembark from the ferries. Reasonably priced double rooms are available as well as 3-4 person apartments and you're guaranteed a highly personal service. The family also runs the excellent Lucas Taverna in Alopronia which serves both Greek and international dishes. Fresh fish is cooked to perfection on a charcoal grill and the souvlaki (a Greek style kebab) is particularly good here.

The Galini Rooms, 200 metres from the waterfront, are exceptionally good value for money - all nine rooms have their own fridges, en-suite bathrooms and beautiful bougainvillea-clad balconies overlooking the sea. The owner, Mr Tasos, has an eight-metre boat and is happy to provide a private ferry service to any of the island's beaches.

Pension Flora, in a slightly elevated position 10 minutes walk from Alopronia Beach on the main road to Hora, has fairly basic but clean and comfortable rooms all with en-suite showers and toilets. Each of the 13 rooms has a fridge and a balcony or terrace, most with views of the sea and port.

The capital of Hora / Kastro on the west side of the island has a small number of rooms to let and the quality is starting to improve now that an increasing number of visitors are discovering the "Sikinos secret".

Themonies, one kilometre from Hora on the road to Alopronia, is a relatively lively spot with comfortable rooms, beautiful verandas and a cocktail bar with Greek and international music.

There are no camp sites or youth hostels on the island but many backpackers bed down under the stars or the branches of the Tamarisk trees which flank the waterfront of Alopronia. Sleeping rough is a fairly rare occurrence so the locals haven't yet clamped down on it as they have on the neighbouring party island of Ios.
