Serifos offers a plentiful supply of small hotels, rooms to let and self-catering apartments. Most of the holiday accommodation is centred in and around Livadi port and the main beach of Livadakia. Don't expect grand hotels with haute cuisine and spa centres but you'll find a good choice of comfortable accommodation, much of which is right by the sea or on the headland with wonderful views of the horseshoe shaped bay where the ferries arrive and depart.
It's advisable to book in advance if you're travelling in high season, especially as you're unlikely to be met off the ferry by a barrage of domatia owners as tends to happen on the more commercialised islands. If you haven't reserved a room, your best bet is to scout around the headland overlooking the ferry dock or head for Livadakia beach about 15 minutes walk south of the port.
One of the most upmarket places to bed down for the night is Hotel Asteri which is relatively pricey by Serifos standards but occupies a prime location right beside Livadi Beach 500 metres from the port. The hotel consists of 10 spacious rooms each equipped with all mod cons including air conditioning, mini bar, satellite TV and a large verandah with sea views. The beachside restaurant provides a shady place to sit and enjoy your meal just a few metres from the water's edge. The hotel reception provides fax and modem facilities and a shuttle bus service to and from the port.
There are plenty of cheap and cheerful rooms to let in and around the port - Anna's domatia beside Hotel Asteri is a good choice as is Eliza's which you'll find 100 metres from the beach on the turn off to Hora. The latter has a beautiful garden and spacious family rooms.
There's also a good selection of self-catering studios and apartments but in most cases the "kitchens" don't allow you to embark on anything much more adventurous than heating up a tin of baked beans. The Beaufort complex, on the headland between Livadi and Livadaki beaches, consists of five studios and apartments all with private bathrooms, kitchens, TV and balconies with sea views.
The Isalos complex offers six traditionally furnished, well equipped rooms a few metres from Avlomonas Beach, 500 metres from the port. The hotel management can organise car rental for you and also provides a fax service and Internet access. The hotel also organises watersports and Greek nights for guests during high season.
Backpackers tend to head for Coralli Camping, 20 metres back from Livadakia Beach, 700 metres south of the port. The camp site sends a minibus to meet ferries arriving at Livadi. The site is well equipped with shady pitches, a swimming pool, minimarket, laundry, restaurant, Internet access and round-the-clock hot water. The lively Heaven Pool Bar serves cocktails and plays dance music throughout the day and evening. The site also has bungalows for rent, all equipped with private baths, air conditioning, TV, fridges and terraces overlooking the garden.
Accommodation is limited elsewhere on the island but you'll find a few rooms to let in the dazzling hilltop capital Hora. Try the comfortable and reasonably priced Aegean Eye which has studios and family rooms perched on the cliff edge.
There are also some very basic rooms available in the north of the island at the beach near Platys Yialos and at Megalo Livadi, eight kilometres south west of Hora.
