Kos offers one of the liveliest night scenes in the Dodecanese. You'll find everything here from traditional Greek nights and hotel cabaret shows to brash Brit bars and techno music blasting till dawn.
Kos Town and the main beach resort of Kardamena, on the south east coast 30 kilometres from the port, are the hottest spots on the island when it comes to late night entertainment.
If it's a restful evening you're after, you can sip a sundowner and listen to Greek music as you watch the world go by in Kos Town - as long as you avoid the two so-called "bar streets" of Nafklirou and nearby Diakon at the northern edge of the ancient agora. The streets are packed with bars most of which belt out very loud music till the small hours.

When it comes to dining, Kos Town offers a good choice of restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets. Stay well back from the harbourfront if you want the best value for money Greek fare. The swishest (though certainly not the cheapest) place to eat is the elegant Petrino Taverna in Plateia Theologou. Innovative Greek specialties and international cuisine are served in this beautifully restored, 100-year-old stone mansion which has an outdoor dining terrace and lovely garden overlooking the agora.
Platanos Restaurant, in Plateia Platanos overlooking the Hippocrates Tree, is another gorgeous building where you can enjoy exquisitely prepared Greek and international dishes. The upstairs balcony of this former Italian officers' club is a perfect spot to while away an hour or two over a mouthwatering meal while taking in the wonderful views of the town and harbour. The restaurant often has jazz musicians and other live music.
If you're in the mood for some Greek music after your meal, pop along to the Hammam Bar in Akri Koundourioti at the eastern end of Nafklirou. Hammam means Turkish bath and this is what the building used to be before its conversion into a late night music haunt where you can recline on the cushions which are liberally scattered throughout. Live DJs take over after midnight.
Music bars with dance floors include Beach Boys, on Kanari by the museum, and Four Roses at the corner of Arseniou and Vassileos Yeoryiou to the south east of the agora. Blues Brothers, on Dolphin Square near the port police, is another lively late night music bar. The nearby Fashion Club is an ostentatious red and chrome affair with three air-conditioned bars and an impressive nightly laser and light show.
Other big night clubs include Heaven on Akti Zouroudi opposite the beach to the north of the harbour. The club is a fairly sedate waterfront bar by day but transforms into a throbbing disco by night, belting out house music till dawn in the summer months. Both Heaven and the next-door club Kalua are big outdoor venues with their own swimming pools.
For a quieter night out try the Orfeus summer cinema on Vassileos Yeoriou, to the south east of the harbour near the yacht marina. Recent releases are often shown in English.
At the frantic beach resort of Kardamena you'll find plenty of British bars, fish and chip shops and late night antics in high season. The huge Norida Beach Complex has its own team of entertainers laying on a packed programme of musicals, cabaret shows and various other evening entertainment.
Many of the big hotels catering for package holidaymakers also provide night time entertainment for the benefit of guests. Early evening kids' clubs and babysitting services enable stressed out parents to relax and enjoy themselves for a few hours.
