The nightlife on Alonnisos is essentially low key as this is an island which attracts hikers and nature lovers rather than round-the-clock revellers. If a vibrant nightlife is important to you, consider holidaying on nearby Skiathos where there are enough boozy Brit bars and dance clubs to satisfy the most hardened of partygoers.
That said, Alonissos offers plenty of small bars and cafes, some of which have live or recorded music until the early hours in high season. And there are a couple of dance spots in Patiri where young locals and foreign visitors gyrate till dawn.
But for most visitors to the island, evenings out consist of a sundowner on the waterfront followed by a leisurely meal and perhaps a nightcap in a cocktail bar before bed. When it comes to dining out, Alonissos boasts some top class eateries - far more so than on Skiathos where traditional tavernas are being ousted by over-priced pizza and burger joints.

One of the most romantic spots for dinner is the beautifully located Argo, next to the Paradise Hotel on the cliff top overlooking the harbour. This is the place to savour deliciously fresh seafood dishes in a peaceful, flower-filled garden setting. A cheaper option for seafood fans is the basic but extremely popular To Kamaki ouzeri, where locals and visitors alike flock to enjoy snacks and main courses prepared from fish landed only a few hours earlier. You'll find it on Ikion Dolopon near the National Bank. Salivate over a mouthwatering selection of seafood mezedes or a warm octopus salad served at the outdoor tables.
Old Alonnisos also has some excellent restaurants including Astrofengia which is a wonderful spot for dinner. The views from the outdoor terrace of this carefully restored Sporadan home are absolutely breathtaking and the food is both innovative and delicious. The restaurant is only open in the evenings and shuts down completely from October to mid-May.
The pretty fishing village of Steni Vala, north east along the coast from Patiri, is a popular yachties' haunt and has plenty of fun bars and good restaurants. Taverna Steni serves up superb seafood and Greek specialties on the outdoor terrace overlooking the harbour.
Patiri offers a few opportunities for late night drinking and dancing. Pub Dennis on the waterfront is the oldest café-bar on the island, packed in high season with cocktail swilling visitors listening to jazz, blues and Greek music on the vine-covered terrace.
Symvolo Bar, a couple of doors down from the National Bank on Ikion Dolopon, plays jazz, blues, funk and rock. If you're more into Greek music try Hot Stuff near the harbour, which sometimes hosts live bouzouki performances, or head out to Rembetika on the road out to Old Alonnisos where you can hear the Greek version of American blues.
Energetic young things dance the night away to chart music at Club Enigma, a short walk up from Pelasgon. There's a disco here from Wednesday to Saturday night in July and August and on Friday and Saturday nights in June and September.
