Finding a reasonably priced room on Alonnisos in the summer months is much easier than on neighbouring Skiathos and Skopelos where most of the big hotels are pre-booked months in advance by the tour groups. Even if you arrive without a reservation in high season you should be able to find a place to stay. The first two weeks of August are the busiest period here but even then the Room Owners Association opposite the quay in Patiri will probably be able to fix you up with a bed for the night.

Sometimes domatia owners meet the ferries as they arrive and you might spot one or two elderly female proprietors wearing the traditional blue and white island costume. The owners' association keeps a list of rooms to rent both in Patiri and nearby Votsi. The award for the hotel with the best location in Patiri must go to the Paradise, perched high up on the promontory to the east of the port. This small, family-run hotel is surrounded by pines trees and flower borders and has a beautiful pool with spectacular day and night time views of the harbour. The hotel is only a five minute walk from the town's shops and tavernas but it's well away from the noise, hustle and bustle of the harbour. Guests can enjoy swimming and snorkelling from the rocks directly below the hotel.
One of the most upmarket hotels in town is the Liadromia where dark, carved wood furniture, embroidered curtains and stone floors lend an air of old-world elegance. The three-storey hotel, to the right up some steps leading off Ikion Dolopon, overlooks the port and has wonderful views from its rooftop terrace bar.
Good value for money budget options in Patiri include Pension Panorama where you can rent very reasonably priced three-person studios and family apartments. The pension has shared, bougainvillea-clad balconies overlooking the port.
You'll have a harder job finding a place to stay in the delightful hill top town of Old Alonnisos and if you do find a room expect to pay more for the privilege of bedding down in what must be one of the most enchanting settlements in the Sporades. There are no hotels in the town but Ikos Travel in Patiri may be able to help you find one of the increasing number of rooms which are available to rent.
There are hotels, studios and private villas to rent elsewhere on the island, notably the luxurious Milia Bay complex 400 metres from the beach to the north east of Patiri. This is a place to pamper yourself in beautiful surroundings whilst enjoying all the comforts of a well equipped villa apartment. The hotel's 20 self-catering apartments all have stunning views of the Aegean and nearby pine forest.
