Portugal has a much greater reputation for its golf courses than for its golf players! Year on year thousands upon thousands of tourists head to Portugal to play on its many courses, most notably those around Estoril, the Algarve and the Costa de la luz.
If you want the best conditions for your game of golf Portugal has to offer, the weather is good between March and November, with particularly hot periods during the Summer months when average temperature's reach around 28°C in June, July and August. This combined with the anglophile nature of the Portuguese people and the high standard and relative good value of the golf courses, it is easy to see why golf in Portugal is so popular.
Golfers who have flown into the capital of Lisbon to travel onwards to the courses in and around the Estoril region usually stay in the actual coastal resort of Estoril itself or the resort of Cascais a little further down the coast. Both provide a good platform for the best courses in the area most notably 'Golf Belas Clube de Campo', a brand new course built next to the world heritage resort of Sintra and 'Golf Penha Longa Atlantic Course', a 6878 yard par 72 in the Sintra Hills. There are seven courses in the area to pit your wits against so even the keenest of players should not run out of new courses to try.
As this area is relatively new and up and coming, booking tee off times is not usually a problem, although if you have very specific requirements or are in a big group it is a good idea to book up via e-mail a few weeks before you head out.
The resorts in the Estoril region also offer excellent nightlife with some fantastic bars and restaurants where locally caught fresh seafood such as swordfish and lobster should not be missed.
The courses around Estoril are not available through many golf operators because they are relatively new and still building their reputation. However we believe they are collectively equal to any in Europe and are certain they will soon become amongst the premier spots in the World.
