France has become one of Europe's best golf holiday destinations. Its accessibility for UK travellers is second-to-none, the climate is less fierce than that of neighbouring Spain and Portugal during the summer months, and there are some excellent courses to play.
Northern France is especially easy to reach from the UK and it boasts many excellent courses; we review two below which we think are well worth a visit...
Golf Arras is a ten-minute drive from the centre of Arras itself. It is an extremely diverse course which is hilly, long and narrow one minute and flat, short and wide the next. One consistency the course does offer however are the superb greens throughout the entire eighteen holes.
La Fôret at Le Touquet is a picturesque course set in a beautiful Pine Forest. Compared to many of the difficult links courses in France it offers a welcome opportunity to attack for pars and birdies. This is not to say it is a pushover however, it is a very fair course where if you play well you are likely to be rewarded with good scores. An interesting point to note is the incredible drainage this course seems to have. It is in perfect condition at all times, even after torrential rain!
The South of France is a little farther away, but nevertheless only a couple of hour in a plane from the UK.
It probably offers a better mixture of great golf courses, scenic surroundings and beautiful weather than the rest of the country. The south of France is home to many of Europe's most inspiring cities such as Cannes, Marseille, Toulon, Monaco and Nice.
Although the South of France is more exclusive than the rest of France, prices for accommodation and green fees remain very similar. Another great thing about golfing here is that the region plays host to courses suitable for all standards of golfer.
We recommend Chateau Blanc golf club and Beauvallon golf club, while the 9-hole course at Baux de Provence golf club is a good and very scenic starting point for those new to the game. The South of France is a truly inspiring destination, and if you can fit a few rounds of golf in as well, even better!!
