French Ski ChaletsThere is a variety of accommodation on offer when you go skiing in France, from hotels to self-catered apartments. One of the most popular places to stay is in a ski chalet. Chalets can be fully catered, bed and breakfast or self catered and so whatever type of holiday experience you are looking for there will be a ski chalet in France to suit you needs.
In catered ski chalets you will usually find an excellent service is provided, including three- or four-course meals every evening, often with wine included; a champagne welcome on arrival is a common enticement, and perhaps even a bucks fizz breakfast on the day you leave. Morning and afternoon teas are usually extra but there is always tea and coffee to be had in the chalet. Bed and breakfasts are ideal as a middle ground between catered and self-catered accommodation: with a French Bed and Breakfast you are able to save some money by cooking for yourself some evenings, and you can go out to dinner when you feel like it too.
Ski chalets range in size from a four- or five-bed chalet to an enormous thirty six-bed chalet. The different sizes of ski chalet in France reflect the different types of groups that go on skiing holidays - from families of four or five people to large groups of friends. There is a great sense of camaraderie when you and a group of friends stay in a large chalet. Every morning you prepare for the day with a hearty breakfast, then get kitted out with all your ski gear and head for the slopes. There is bound to be a mix of abilities and expertise, so in order to try and include everyone, build up the beginners' confidence early on in the week so that by the end of the week you can all attempt an outing together.
There are various levels of luxury in ski chalets in France. Some offer a private minibus service to the airport or from the chalet to the slopes in the morning. There is usually somewhere to keep your skis and boots, and this may even include heated boot racks. The service might run to organising your lift passes for you (but the cost of the lift pass isn't generally included) and even an in-chalet ski and boot fitting service. Other luxuries include fresh flowers, daily papers, a central video collection, complimentary bar, and baby sitting.
