As with many of the towns on the Cote d'Azur, Frejus (Fréjus) hotels do not come cheap. You might be better off staying at one of the fifteen campsites if you are on a tight budget, such as the four-star Holiday Green (04 94 19 88 30) on the road to Bagnols, where you can expect to pay about €11 per tent, per night and around €5 per person. The HI hostel on chemin de Counillier (04 94 53 18 75) is two kilometres from the centre of town and has beds for under €12. Check with the tourist office at 325 rue Jean-Jaurès (04 94 51 83 83) for bus timetables to and from the campsites and hostel if you do not have your own transport.

If you have a little more spare cash, La Riviera at 90 rue Grisolle (04 94 51 31 46) is a slightly old-fashioned hotel with rooms from €30-40, and for the same price you can get a more central (but more noisy) room at La Bellevue on place Paul-Vernet (04 94 17 25 05). For more hotels in a similar price bracket, take your search to Fréjus-Plage rather than the main town itself.

If luxury accommodation is your goal, L'Aréna at 139 rue Général-de-Gaulle (04 94 17 09 40) offers smart rooms and the opportunity to lounge next to the hotel pool for a cool €100-125 per night. L'Aréna also has a good restaurant. Here you can dine on excellent seafood and fish dishes and other seasonal cuisine from around €29 for the lowest-priced menu.

Les Potiers at 135 rue des Potiers (04 94 51 33 74) is a small, intimate restaurant that serves freshly-prepared and seasonal dishes on menus priced from €29. Cheaper alternatives are available in the main shopping areas, the place de la Liberté and place Agricola. Cadet Rouselle, for example, on the place Agricola, may only be a humble crêperie but it serves up a fine lunch menu with three crepes for around €11. Place de la Liberté is also a good spot for people-watching, with the Bar du Marché a popular café choice. Or, if you are self-catering, take note of the market days on Wednesday and Saturday in the square.
