"Press Release from SpeedFerries - 22 October 2007

SpeedFerries Keeps its Promise to Motorcyclists!

Earlier this year, much to the frustration of a large number of the UK’s motorcycling public; SpeedFerries was forced to announce it could no-longer carry motorcycles on its fast craft service from Dover – Boulogne. As a ‘low cost’, fast ferry company, it is essential that SpeedFerries maintain a tight schedule and this includes a fast turn-around in port. Too much time was required to securely lash motorcycles onboard – which was not only affecting its schedule, the lashings were not secure enough to prevent numerous and expensive damage claims.

SpeedFerries promised it would continue to source a solution to this problem that would enable the company to welcome back motorcyclists in the future.

Determined to keep its promise, SpeedFerries carried out a global search to find a solution that was ultimately found back here in the UK. Hitchlugger, a small niche company, was founded by motorcycle enthusiast Geoffrey Kendall. Having grown his business by making Motorcycle Carriers for other enthusiasts, Geoffrey was delighted to come to Dover and adapt his product for SpeedOne. Ideally suited for the fast craft, the carrier enables motorcycles to be stowed speedily and securely during all weathers.

SpeedFerries is delighted to be the first ferry operator to adopt this system onboard SpeedOne and welcome back its much missed motorcyclists.

The first four motorcycle carriers will be installed for use 5 November 2007 with a view to installing additional systems to meet demand. Available to book online now!"

Speed Ferries is a newcomer to the cross-channel scene, providing a high-speed, low price alternative from Dover. Having launched in May 2004 with a single vessel on a route unused for 10 years, they hope to keep the competition on their toes by using the latest maritime technology and providing simpler ticketing services and straightforward pricing. Taking a look at what they have to offer its easy to see how their new service will be very attractive to those in a hurry to get away.

Easy access from the U.K. - departures are from the Eastern Docks in Dover, just the same as the more leisurely traditional ferry routes and easily accessible from London and the rest of the U.K. via the M20 motorway.

Quick crossing to France - the up-to-the-minute design of the catamaran enables it to make the crossing to Boulogne in 50 minutes, at least 20 minutes quicker than the fastest ferry crossing to Calais. The service departs five times a day from Dover April to September and three times daily at other times.

Better gateway to France - Boulogne is now well connected to the rest of France via the A16 motorway and up to half an hour van be taken off driving times on the other side. Not to mention the fact that the town itself provides a more pleasing welcome to France than the grittier introduction at Calais. For day trips especially, this has to be a serious consideration.

On board facilities are less extensive than on the larger ferries, however the catamaran still boasts a cafÈ, wine bar and shop as well as a sun deck, weather permitting. A play area is provided for small children, and those a little older might find the gaming area a suitable distraction. For a surcharge passengers can benefit from the PremierClass service with reserved seating on the top deck, complimentary newspapers and drinks and priority embarkation and disembarkation. The SpeedOne catamaran has good access for disabled passengers, except to the top deck, but bookings requiring special assistance must be made by phone (+44 (0) 870 22 00 570). In these instances the normal phone booking fee will be waived.

One of the biggest advantages of Speed Ferries' service is their very reasonable booking and pricing conditions. Low price return tickets to France are available no matter how long your stay is, even if you want to change your dates once booked. Prices change with availability so early bookings are encouraged.
