When we talk about the Metropolitan Hotel Dubai, we usually mean the large building on Sheikh Zayed Road, surrounded by landscaped gardens. But Metropolitan Hotels International, like many companies with branches in Dubai, has been expanding, and there are now four hotels in Dubai which bear the Metropolitan name.
The main Metropolitan Hotel Dubai is very popular with business travellers, as it is located five minutes' drive away from the Dubai World Trade Centre and ten minutes' drive away from Dubai Airport.
It has all the facilities you would expect from a five-star hotel, including a cinema complex, hair salon, internet café and convenience store with postal service.
Gym bunnies won't be disappointed either, as there is a swimming pool, a fully-equipped gymnasium, a Jacuzzi, a sauna and a steam room, as well as massage facilities. The Metropolitan Palace Hotel, on Al-Maktoum Road, looks more like a skyscraper than an Arabian palace. As you might expect from the exterior and its situation in the business district, it serves more business clients than holidaymakers. The cost is roughly half what you'd pay to stay at the Burj Al Arab, and for that you get a rooftop swimming pool, steam room, sauna, shopping arcade and salon. You also get free access to the Metropolitan Resort & Beach Club as well as a complimentary shuttle bus to take you there. As for restaurants, you can eat Polynesian or Lebanese food, or take traditional English afternoon tea.
The Metropolitan Deira Hotel is the shopper's favourite, as it's situated in the city centre, close to the shopping areas as well as not far from the airport. You get the gym, sauna and Jacuzzi that seem to be standard at Metropolitan hotels in the UAE, and the choice of restaurants is interesting. If you're longing for a taste of pub grub from the old country, go to the Dublin Arms. Or there's the interestingly-named Wunderbar, serving European food. Finally, the Metropolitan Resort & Beach Club on the Jumeirah coast, has a private beach overlooking the Gulf. Here you can learn wind-surfing and water-skiing with the help of professional instructors. You also have access to a gym, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a massage parlour and two tennis courts. Guests at all three of its sister hotels have complimentary access to the Resort & Beach Club, as well as a complimentary shuttle bus to take them there.
