At the luxury end of the market, Le Meridien Dubai is a five-star, two-storey hotel surrounded by acres and acres of landscaped gardens. As you might have guessed from the name, it is owned by a French company, all of whose hotels have a European feel.
Le Meridien Dubai is not to be confused with Le Royal Meridien Dubai, or indeed any of the other luxury accommodation owned by the same company in Dubai. Some find the décor rather stuffy in comparison to the almost tacky excesses of other luxury hotels, but if you like the French flair of the place you should look at www.lemeridien.com for other Le Meridien places, either in Dubai or in other parts of the Middle East.
The location of Le Meridien Dubai is very convenient for business travellers as well as tourists, as it's handy for Dubai International Airport, the Dubai World Trade Centre, shopping malls and the Dubai Creek Golf Course. But don't assume it's just for people on business. Yes, there are two business centres and the hotel also has conference rooms, but the focus isn't exclusively on work-related travellers. The 24-hour room and laundry service is essential if overwork and travel has skewed your body clock, but it is also an excellent bonus for anyone needing a bit of pampering.
If you're looking for relaxation, there is a spa giving hydrotherapy and body wraps (among many other treatments) as well as a gym, aerobics studio and hair salon.
As for restaurants, choose from Antigan, Chinese, Irish, Italian, Lebanese, Japanese and other cuisines, including French (of course).
Restaurants are divided between the hotel building itself and the Meridien Village area of the grounds. Le Meridien Village is an experience in itself, as evening diners enjoy al fresco meals in the gardens. For water babies with the munchies, the pool bar allows you to enjoy light meals and snacks by the pool.
As you might expect from somewhere with all this, the prices aren't cheap. It tends to cost over £150 ($300) per night for a single room, and you may well decide that for that money, you'd rather have some authentic Dubai ostentation. In the land of the bling, tasteful hotels can often appear bland.
