Kyrenia is the most attractive coastal resort in Cyprus and has retained much of its historic charm. There has been some modern construction on the edge of the town, but the centre has been preserved unspoilt and a sense of timelessness hangs in the air. Kyrenia's setting is also second to none; sandwiched between the glittering waters of the Mediterranean and the natural amphitheatre of the Kyrenian Range. The town makes an ideal base for exploring the surrounding region and consequently Kyrenia hotels fill up quickly.
Directory of Kyrenia Hotels
Jasmine Court Hotel
The majority of visitors book into hotel complexes on the outskirts of Kyrenia, some of which are lacking in charm. A notable exception is the luxurious Jasmine Court resort; just a few kilometres form the city centre. Besides owning a private beach the hotel boasts a number of different bars and restaurants, a nightclub (with casino), a choice of swimming pools and a fitness centre. There are plenty of excursions and day-trips for anyone wanting to get out, although it's easy to spend all your time in the manicured hotel gardens. Tel: 392 815 1450
WebsiteThe Dome Hotel
A more central (and similarly priced) option is Kyrenia's Dome Hotel. Combining classical décor and traditional architecture, The Dome is something of a Kyrenian institution and arguably the finest hotel in town. Behind the hotel's old-world façade, the interior corrals together every conceivable creature comfort (as well as some you wouldn't even think of, such as a rock-hewn saltwater swimming pool). The staff are incredibly attentive and it's no surprise that the hotel is such a hit with visitors. Tel: 392 815 24 53.Harbour Lodge Hotel
Given the nature of the Cypriot tourist industry, which relies mostly on pre-booked package holidays, hotels catering for independent (and in this case budget) travellers are thin on the ground. However, cheap rooms can be had at the Harbour Lodge Hotel (Tel: 392 815 7392).Ergenekon Hotel
If you're pockets are slightly deeper the Ergenekon Hotel is a good bet. It's small and friendly family run concern that's well-worth booking in advance. Tel: 392 815 4677.
WebsiteIf you arrive without a bed for the night the local tourist office should be able to point you in the right direction.
