Flights to Larnaca - Cyprus flight & airport information

Cyprus is one of the United Kingdom’s favourite destinations and summer months see the island’s population swell with holidaymakers drawn by the promise of sun, sea and souvlaki. Larnaca Cyprus is Southern Cyprus’ principal airport and handles more than five million passengers each year. Both scheduled and charter flights to Larnaca can be bought from high-street travel agents, on the internet or over the phone with the help of last minute specialist outlets such as Teletext.

The Cypriot government isn’t keen on independent travellers and limits the number of ‘non package’ seats that can be sold, which means that you’ll probably arrive in Larnaca with accommodation already booked. Flights to Larnaca from the United Kingdom take about four and a half hours. The main factor affecting ticket price is when you choose to travel. Unsurprisingly the best deals are available for anyone who can avoid the peak summer months, school holidays and doesn’t mind travelling at ‘unsocial’ hours. British citizens do not need a visa to visit Cyprus; just a valid passport.

Larnaca airport is located five kilometres south of the town centre. Larnaca is well connected with the rest of the island by an extensive bus network, but many visitors prefer the freedom afforded by a rental car. Taxis into the town centre are reasonably priced and shouldn’t take more than 20 minutes (depending on the traffic). Package tourists will normally be met by a rep and taken to their hotel by minibus or coach.

Larnaca airport itself is fairly small considering the amount of people who use it. At present there’s just one terminal with a café/restaurant, a couple of souvenir shops and handful of banks (with bureaux de changes and ATM facilities). Most of the ‘big name’ car hire companies have representatives and there are a number of local operators. There’s also a friendly Tourist Information Office, but it quickly gets crowded and you may be better of waiting until you get to your resort. Taxis and buses operate from just outside the terminal buildings.
