Cyprus Airways: Website
Cyprus Airways began life in 1947 with a handful of Douglas Dakotas and has grown to become The Greek Republic of Southern Cyprus' national carrier. Currently Cyprus Airways operates services from five UK airports: London Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Manchester and Birmingham. At the 'other end' of the journey you can choose to arrive at either Larnaca or Paphos airports. If you intend to tour the island you can arrive at one and depart from the other. There are no visa regulation for British citizens wanting to holiday in Cyprus; you'll just need a valid passport.
Tickets on scheduled flights are not cheap by international standards and rise even higher during the peak summer months and at weekends. However, there are still some competitive seats available if you start looking early. Flights with Cyprus Airways can be booked over the telephone or on the Internet, but you may well find that the cheapest seats are sold as flight/accommodation packages (owing to a governmental policy to discourage 'independent travel').
Flight times from the UK to Cyprus are between four and a half to five hours, depending on which route you choose. Cyprus Airways flies an all Airbus fleet consisting of A319s, A320s and A330s. All aircraft have an in-flight entertainment system offering films, music and games and there are First and Business Class sections for anyone wanting to fly in style. In-flight food takes its inspiration form the Middle East and vegetarian alternatives can be organized in advance. Cyprus Airways is keen to reward loyal customers with a Frequent Flyers and an Air Miles program. Cyprus Airlines currently flies to more than 30 Europe-wide destinations.
In 1991 Cyprus Airways gained a new family member; a 'sister' company they christened Eurocypria. The business was launched in response to the growing demand for charter flights to the island. Things have really taken off and today Eurocypria flies to more than 50 (mostly regional) European airports. Because it is a charter airline, flights tend to be much cheaper than booking through Cyprus Airways.
