Don't be fooled by the name. Norwegian Cruise Line sails to far more than just Scandinavia. Though they boast a patriotic Norwegian crew and have the motto "cruising the Norwegian way", from Alaska to Bermuda, Hawaii or New England, Norwegian Cruise Line are likely to sail there.
Though only in operation since the 1990's, NCL's choice of destination makes them serious competition for other cruise lines. Norwegian Cruise Line has eight different ships cruising through the Caribbean, Florida, Mexico and Bermuda. Their seven day 'Texaribbean' cruise promises to be hot, hot, hot and comes with the requisite beaches and glorious sunsets. If you head north up the American coast and into Canadian waters, the quaint towns and watercolour scenery are a treat for nature lovers. From March through to September, you can sail the waters of Europe from the warmth of the Mediterranean to the distinctly chillier North Sea, calling at some of Europe's most impressive cities. South America is enjoyed by beach-bums and history buffs alike so a cruise to this region can be whatever you want it to be. The Lost City of the Incas, snow-capped Andean Peaks and sophisticated urban cities are all waiting to be seen. Other itineraries include Hawaii and the Panama Canal amongst many others.
In an attempt to break the normally rigid rules of cruise etiquette, Norwegian Cruise Lines created 'freestyle cruising'. This allows you to dine when you want, wearing when you want and do as much or as little as you want. Not all of their cruises are 'freestyle' though, so check before you book if you want something more relaxed. NCL boasts many 'firsts'; all inclusive air and sea package and their own private island to name a few. They also operate one off cruises known as Repositioning Cruises or Exotic Odysseys which are generally longer than seven days in length and can be extremely cheap.
Their ships are not 'mega-liners' as they hold an average of 800 passengers and 300 crew members. NCL aim to immerse their passengers in the history and culture of the counties they visit and smaller ships are a more effective way of ensuring this.
