With the Longmen Grottoes, the cultural site of Mount Mangshan, museums, temples and national parks, there are copious places for tourists to explore.

Start out by visiting the Longmen Grottoes as one of China’s main treasure troves of stone sculptures, then tour the many ancient vestiges of Mount Mangshan such as the emperor’s tombs from past dynasties. Next there is the Ancient Tombs Museum well worth taking a look at as it offers a unique insight into the treasures discovered in ancient tombs.

If you are after something a bit more cultural, the Baima Temple is a great place to start. It is China’s first official Buddhist temple and is even one of the world’s oldest.

If you happen to be around in April, look out for the Luoyang Peony Festival that takes place in Wangcheng Park. This festival is one you wont want to miss, radiant with colour and alive with the delights of singing and dancing.
