Madrid Hotel & Lodging Guides - Nightlife Overview

Madrid’s wealth of tourist accommodation means that you’re unlikely to have any problems finding a room, but it still helps to know what you’re looking for from the outset. Most of the capital’s hotels and hostals are concentrated around the historic city center and range from elegant neoclassical palaces (such as the The Ritz and the Santa Mauro) down-at-heel backpackers’ dives. The trick is finding the right place at the right price.

Madrid is fairly well-behaved during the day, but often gets raucous after sunset; so it’s important to choose accommodation where you know that you’ll get a good night’s sleep (if that’s what you want!). If you’re looking for a quiet stay it’s difficult to beat the handsome districts of Receletos and Salamanca, although you’ll have to pay for the privilege.

On the other hand if you want to take advantage of Madrid’s fabled nightlife then it’s best to head for Plaza de Santa Ana and Plaza Mayor. Besides a good crop of mid-range hotels and budget hostels the area corrals together some of the capital’s liveliest bars, restaurants and clubs.

Despite the fact that you’ll have little difficulty finding a room in Madrid; it still makes financial sense to book in advance. Besides getting a more favorable rate, you’ll have the peace of mind of knowing exactly where you are going. If you arrive and haven’t got anything booked you’ll find that most Spanish hoteliers speak enough English to take your booking over the phone. If you’re still stuck the friendly staff at the Spanish Tourist Office (at the airport and central bus station) will be happy to help you find somewhere to stay.
