Flights to Reykjavik - City Breaks

Today Reykjavik is served by numerous airlines, although the most comprehensive service is provided by the national carrier Icelandair, who operate direct flights from various European capitals (including London and Paris) and the United States. Competition comes from Iceland Express; the country’s only budget airline who flies from London and Copenhagen.

From the UK it’s a three hour flight to Reykjavik’s Keflavik Airport, which is located 50km form the city centre. Once you’ve left the aircraft you’ll be shepherded into the gleaming new Leifur Eiriksson Terminal building, where you’ll find a host of facilities including: foreign exchange bureaus, car hire outlets, duty free and tourist information.

Keflavik Airport is well-connected and there are a number of ways of making the onward journey into central Reykjavik. Arguably the easiest is to catch a taxi (you’ll find them queuing up outside the arrivals hall), but it’s also the most expensive and will cost somewhere in the region of £50.00.

A much more economical option is to catch the Flybus, which operates every 15 minutes and takes approximately 45 minutes to reach at Reykjavik’s main bus terminal. You can then hop on any other municipal bus free of charge. Return journeys can be booked through your hotel and you’ll need to be packed 2-3 hours before departure. Tickets cost about one fifth of the cost of cab (and are free for children).

Besides handling the lion’s share of international traffic, Keflavik Airport also serves as the country’s domestic hub. Most internal flights are operated by Air Iceland and can be book online by visiting www.airiceland.is.
