Stansted is both the forth busiest airport in the UK and the fastest growing airport in Europe. Stanstead currently handles approximately 19 million passengers every year, many of whom are taking advantage of low-cost airfares. In fact, Stansted is doing so well that another runway is already on the drawing board.

Despite Stansed's billing as a 'London airport' public transport links to the capital aren't great (which explains why car travel is so popular). The airport is best reached by leaving the M11 at junction 8a and then following the signposts east. The airport authorities at Stansted have matched the increased demand for airline tickets with a host of parking options, so you're spoiled for choice:
If you're waving goodbye to someone or waiting to meet an arrival, Stansted's short stay car park (operated by Meteor Parking) is by far the best bet. The car park is situated a few steps from the terminal, but remember that you must always keep an eye on the time as charges quickly add up. If you are staying for more than three days you should consider leaving your vehicle at Stansted's Mid Stay parking facility run by eparking. Because the car park is further a field you'll have to catch the shuttle bus to the airport terminal (the service runs 24 hours-a-day and takes five minutes). To secure the best deals book in advance.
Stansted's long stay car park is run by Pink Elephant (Meteor Parking). It's safe, secure, big (boasting a phenomenal 14,500 parking spaces) and is by far the most economic of all the parking solutions. The long stay car park is a fair hike form the airport and is linked by complimentary shuttle buses. Although the journey itself doesn't take more than fifteen minutes it's prudent to leave three quarters of an hour to be on the safe side. If you're leaving your car for more than five days it pays to make advance reservations, otherwise you can simply drive in. Payment is made on departure by cash or credit card. Motorcyclists won't have to pay a penny if they head for the (free) dedicated bike parking area in zone D of the long stay car park.
Stansted airport's car parks are hot on security, but standards do vary so it's worth reading the small print before signing on the dotted line. If your car park doesn't have the following - look elsewhere: frequent staff foot patrols, round the clock CCTV monitoring and sturdy fencing. You'll also find that a number of airport car parks provide additional vehicle cover. However, the best way to ensure that you vehicle is safe is by removing all temptation (i.e. by hiding anything tempting out of sight).
