Much of Liverpool airport's success is thanks to heavy investment from the EC during the 1990's and plenty more money has been earmarked for the airports ongoing expansion (annual passenger numbers have been predicted to rise to 4.5 million by 2006). In the summer of 2001 the airport was re-named Liverpool John Lennon Airport in memory of the fabled local musician.
Liverpool airport is located seven miles south-east of the city and is easily reached by a variety of public transport links. Arguably the easiest way of getting to the airport is to catch the train to nearby Hunts Cross station. People travelling by car should aim of the A562, which is accessed by leaving the M56 motorway at junction six.
Finding a parking space is unlikely to be a problem as there are currently 6,500 to choose between. However, if you book early your wallet will take less of a beating. The most convenient parking solution is the airport's own on-site car park, which is located next to the terminal buildings. A pick up point has recently been added to the car park for anyone making a flying visit, although you must not leave your vehicle. On your return payment is made with cash or credit cards at the machines scattered throughout the car park. Cycling is encouraged and bicycles can be left in specially designed 'cycle lockers' for a £50.00 refundable deposit.
Other car parks competing for your custom at Liverpool airport include:
Imagine Car Parking (3-4 Morrow Court): Secure parking with plenty of space. Courtesy shuttle buses regularly make the two minute trip to the airport. Note that there's a minimum stay of three days.
Skyparks : Another well-established player in the world of airport parking. Again it's a short hop on the shuttle bus to the airport and again you need to stay for at least three days.
The majority of car parks servicing Liverpool airport are generally very security conscious, however standards do vary. Before you hand over any credit card details it pays to visit you chosen car park's FAQ pages to see precisely what security measures they have in place. It's reasonable to demand the following (and don't be afraid to shop around if they don't cut the mustard): 24/7 Closed Circuit Television monitoring, regular foot patrols by trained staff and sturdy fencing/ gating. You'll also find that several car parks boast additional complimentary vehicle cover. To be on the safe side remember that your car will be less vulnerable if all luggage is kept out of sight.
