Bristol airport was conceived in Filton Aerodrome (which later became celebrated as the birthplace of Concorde) by a group of local flying enthusiasts at the end of the 1920's. The airport was opened in 1930 and hasn't looked back since. Today, Bristol is the primary aviation hub for Wales and the South West, and was officially crowned the UK's fastest growing airport in 2002. Bristol airport flies to more than 60 destinations across the globe and sees nearly 4 million passengers each year.

Bristol airport is situated nine miles south of the city centre. The best way to get to there is to follow the M5 motorway until it joins with the A38. A healthy proportion of the recent investment in Bristol International Airport has been spent on airport parking, which means that there's more than enough to go around. However, advanced booking is recommended as you stand to save a small fortune.
If you're giving someone a lift to the airport then you can use the Passenger Pick Up car park directly in front of the airport buildings. However, you should only leave your vehicle for a maximum of 90 minutes or you will have to pay dearly for the pleasure. Anyone planning a more intimate farewell should make their way to the Short Stay car park, which is located on the main airport approach road. To get to the terminal you'll then have to jump on the shuttle bus, which takes just a couple of minutes.
Bristol airport's long stay parking boasts an impressive 6821 spaces and a tariff structure that would try the intellect of a chess Grand Master. Basically, if you are leaving your vehicle for up to three days then there is no need to book in advance (just turn up at the gate). Otherwise advanced booking makes sense: book 24-hours ahead and you'll get the discounted Pre-Booked Price, whereas if you can manage seven days in advance you can cash-in on the Early Bird Price. Once more the last leg of your journey is completed by shuttle bus.
If you're happy to travel slightly further a field the Silver Car Park may well work out to be a more competitive option. It's about 1.5 miles form the airport and shouldn't take more than 10 minutes transfer time. There are separate car parks for disabled travellers, business travellers (Navigator car park) and free parking for motorcycles.
Bristol airport's car parks have a good reputation for vehicle security. However, it's wise to get an exact picture of what you can expect before handing over your credit card details (after all there's no quicker way to loose your holiday high than to find your car has been broken into). Look out for the following: round-the clock CCTV surveillance, regular foot patrols, robust fencing and courtesy vehicle liability cover.
