Birmingham Airport Parking - Short and Long Stay

Directory - Hotels - Feedback and Notes

Birmingham airport has come a long way since opening as a council run concern in 1939. Having spent the first fifty years of its life quietly expanding Birmingham airport received a private sector windfall of £260 million in the early 1990s and has grown to become the fifth busiest airport in the UK. Today the airport consists of two terminals and handles over 8 million passengers each year. With the world-famous National Exhibition Centre on the doorstep and ongoing investment Birmingham International Airport's future has never looked brighter.

BIRMINGHAM AIRPORT MAP

Birmingham airport is situated eight miles east of the city centre, right at the geographical heart of the UK. Public transport links couldn't be better and the airport even boasts its own rail station (which is served by more than 200 trains each day). The airport also well connected to the country's motorway network and can be easily accessed form Junction 6 of the M42. Alternatively you can head for Junction T1 on the new M6 toll road.

Birmingham airport's suite of 'official' car parks is operated by NCP and there's enough choice to suit all your parking needs. Anyone planning a brief visit (for example; to greet someone arriving on an inbound flight or drop a passenger off) should follow the signposts to the Short Stay Car Park. The car park is just a couple of minutes walk from the airport buildings and by far the most convenient of all the options. Parking rates are reasonable if you intend to leave your vehicle for a maximum of two hours, otherwise you're better off using one of the other car parks. Advanced reservations aren't taken at the short stay car park, just: turn up, take a ticket and drive in.

The nearby Multi-Storey Car Park seems to be undergoing something of an identity crisis and isn't sure whether it's a'short stay' car park or a 'mid stay' car park. For up to two hours the tariff is the same as its neighbour, after which it climbs at a much more reasonable rate. The Multi-Storey car park also offers special packaged rates for a variety of short breaks (from four days to two weeks). However, the big difference is that it's possible to pre-book parking slot and save as much as 40 percent. Reservations must be made at least four days in advance (for credit card details to clear) and spaces are limited, so it's best to get in there as early as possible.

The Long Stay Car Park is the furthest from the two terminals and consequently the cheapest option. Prices rise slightly during the summer months, but the car park still represents good value for money. The Long Stay Car Park sprawls for some distance and whether you need to catch the shuttle bus (or walk) depends on where you park. Shuttle buses run every ten minutes and make the journey in less than five minutes. Again pre-booking is strongly recommended, even if you are just staying for a day.
