Stanstead is the fastest growing airport in Europe and the fourth busiest in the United Kingdom. It's well-known as the home of budget airlines and with a second runway planned; Stanstead's future has never looked better.

However, there is a fly in the ointment - as anyone who has used the airport after dark can testify. Slumbering passengers litter the airport floor waiting to catch cheap flights that depart in the small hours for the simple reason that Stanstead's public transport links are woefully inadequate. Trains are infrequent and stop running stop running early while coaches can be impossibly slow. The airport has plenty of parking, but if you don't own a car then transport options are limited.

Luckily there are a number of hotels within easy reach of Stanstead airport where you can spend the night. Some offer complimentary parking (normally for a maximum of 15 days) or competitively priced room/parking packages, in addition to complimentary airport transfers.
